# Driver Performance Scorecard Template: Safety, Efficiency & Compliance

Driver performance directly impacts your fleet's safety record, fuel costs, vehicle wear, and customer satisfaction. Yet most fleet operators still rely on informal feedback or incident-based reviews.

This scorecard template gives you a structured, repeatable way to evaluate every driver monthly - and build a culture of accountability and improvement.

How to Use This Template

  1. 1Collect data from your telematics/GPS system, fuel records, trip logs, and incident reports at the end of each month.
  2. 2Score each driver using the rubrics in each section.
  3. 3Calculate the weighted total to get the driver's monthly score.
  4. 4Conduct a 15-minute review with each driver - share scores, highlight wins, and agree on improvement actions.
  5. 5Track trends over 3–6 months to identify consistent performers and those needing intervention.

Review Meeting Guide (15 minutes)

Opening (2 min)

  • •Thank the driver for their time.
  • •State the purpose: "This is about helping you perform at your best, not about finding fault."

Review Scores (8 min)

  • •Walk through each section score.
  • •For low scores, show the underlying data (telematics events, trip logs).
  • •Ask: "What do you think contributed to this?"

Agree on Actions (4 min)

  • •Identify 1–2 specific improvement areas (not more).
  • •Set a measurable target: e.g., "Reduce harsh braking events from 8 to under 3 per 1,000 km."
  • •Agree on support: coaching ride-along, refresher training, route change.

Close (1 min)

  • •Confirm next review date.
  • •Document agreed actions in the fleet management system.

Implementation Tips

  • •Automate data collection - integrate your telematics platform with IdeaSprout Fleet Management to auto-populate Sections 1, 2, and 4.
  • •Be consistent - run scorecards for every driver every month, not just problem drivers.
  • •Tie to incentives - consider a monthly bonus for drivers scoring 90+. Even ₹500–₹1,000 drives significant behaviour change.
  • •Use cohort benchmarks - show drivers how they rank within their depot, not just their absolute score.
  • •Review baselines quarterly - as your fleet improves, tighten the benchmarks to keep raising the bar.
